Thaw frozen food safely
There are lots of ways to thaw frozen food safely- some people thaw meat in fridge, others put in water and some people opt to cook food straight away.
Below are some risky methods you might be using to thaw frozen food.
Meat thaw at room temperature- Leaving food at room temperature puts it in 40-140 F temperature zone, where bacteria will grow on it and makes you ill.
Solution
Thaw food using cold water and change water as it starts to get warm.
Refrigerator thawing is best.
Use microwave and use cook food immediately.
Putting frozen food into hot oil before clearing ice off is a bad idea- hot oil and frozen water have violent and dangerous reactions that result in sputtering and may cause fire.
Solution
Take food out of freezer and try to remove as much of ice as possible, run some tap water over it to get ice crystals off or just scrape it off.
Cook the frozen stuff at same temperature for a long time- is not good idea and results in overcooking.
Solution
Extend the cooking time by 50 % and reduce the temperature by 25 %, if you cook something at 350 degrees for 8 minutes attempt to cook at 325 degrees for 15 minutes.
